Kentucky training police slides obtained through a FOIA request quotes Adolf Hitler, commissioner steps down

Kentucky police training slides quoting Adolf Hitler have resulted in the state’s police commissioner resigning from his post following a report from Louisville duPont Manual High School’s student newspaper, the Manual Redeye. The training slides were first reported by students in the Manual Redeye and were obtained through a FOIA request. The slides contain quotes advocating for violence, including “meet violence with greater violence” and be a “ruthless killer.” The slides also quote Hitler’s manifesto, “Mein Kampf.” It is unknown how long the slides were used for training purposes. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear told the Louisville Courier-Journal the training slides were “absolutely unacceptable” and planned to take “immediate corrective action.” The report follows months of national coverage of Kentucky police after officers fatally shot Breonna Taylor in March 2020.
